HUGO Young Scientist Travel Award for HUGO Symposium on Genomics and Ethics, Law and Society Sequencing of individual Genomes: Impact on Society and Ethics

The travel award is aiming at providing vital financial assistance to young scientists under the age of 40 to be able to attend the HUGO workshops, benefit from the scientific talks and exchanges as well as interact and network with senior scientists and fellow researchers from all over the world.

Description of Scholarship

Applicants should be actively engaged in human genome research and will usually be under 40 years of age. Applicants who do not meet these criteria will need particularly strong support demonstrated in their required supporting documents listed below. Please note that the programme is not intended for scientists holding senior positions: rather than applying for themselves, senior scientists should encourage their postdocs and junior fellows to apply.

Applications must be submitted via email before 31 July 2009.
HUGO secretariat will inform individual recipient by 15 September 2009 via email.

Supporting Documents

Applications should consist of:

  • Curriculum vitae of the applicant: this should occupy no more than one single sheet and should include a list of recent publications.
  • A recommendation by their superior or lecturer / mentor indicating knowledge and support of the application.
  • An abstract submission on Genomics and Ethics, Law and Society focusing on Sequencing of individual Genomes: Impact on Society and Ethics and related topics
